Gee, this is sudden.
With the book more or less closed on Manitoba's 2010 civic election and most of the post-mortems complete, it seems like a good time to do something that's been lurking in the back of my mind for some time, and close down this corner of the inter-web.
Yes, at this point I realize I have become like the Brett Favre of the local blogosphere (minus the poorly considered voice mails/inappropriate pics) with my frequent interruptions of service, followed by an inevitable return behind the keyboard. But this time, it's permanent, and it's for real. And despite all the nice comments, emails, Facebook messages, etc., that you sent the last time I threatened to hang up my keyboard, I'm not changing my mind this time. I do appreciate the sentiments, and I'm glad my efforts mean what they do to some of you, but it's time for me to focus on other things. (And no, that doesn't include joining the rest of the local Twitter-ati: Endless Spin won't find new life as a microblog).
Thank you for reading this for the past five years. This has wildly exceeded my initially modest expectations, and I appreciate that so many of you care. Even if you hated what I had to say or vehemently disagreed, I respect the fact that we could engage in these discussions.
So with that, farewell, local blogosphere. Of course, I'll still be reading - and I encourage you to read the blogs listed in the sidebar, as they're excellent - and I'll still be engaged, but from the sidelines.
All the best,
Curtis
Sorry to hear this. I think we need analysis of events and we're poorer for the loss of your thoughts on things.
ReplyDeleteCurtis,
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess this time it is a done deal. Our local blog-o-sphere will be the poorer for it. Thanks for your efforts these past five years. This was always one of my favorite haunts - I always enjoyed the read and perspectives you offered up. A good place to visit - I'll miss it. I wish you well in whatever the future should bring.
Dang. I'll miss your posts; good luck in your future endeavours.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on an excellent run, Curtis. Your blog has always been a great read and I can tell you that I have always appreciated the thoughtful analysis that you provided on this site.

Your insight, delightful sense of humour and intelligent commentary will be missed. Thank you for the past five years.
ReplyDeleteRegards Rhonda
Sorry to see you go, Curtis. Your blog was one of my favourites. Best wishes on your future projects.
ReplyDeleteYou'll be missed Curtis! Thanks for the great posts and good luck!
ReplyDeleteDamn, there goes half of my linked traffic ;)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck on future endeavors. I am sure this isn't the last we'll see or hear from ya !
Rats! One of my top stops to keep up with Manitoba news. More and more of the good political blogs are packing up and closing shop, darn it all.
ReplyDeleteSo, is there any truth to the rumour that you're now a stringer for FoxNews North? Just kidding- really enjoyed the insight and wit. Best of luck with whatever is going to fill that space in your life that was Endless Spin.
ReplyDeleteWas it something I said? It was something I said, wasn't it. Damn, I knew I shouldn't have said anything.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find your future hobbies just as rewarding.
Sigh. You'll be missed. Excellent work over the past few years.
ReplyDeletePlease leave the site up, though! Your blogroll is an excellent source of tabs for my browser.
Also, who knows if you'll want to return, in the future. Best leave that door open ;)
Okay...you've made your point. Now get back online !
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your kind words! They're very humbling. In the meantime, I will be leaving this up so people can still access the blogroll.
ReplyDeleteAdios amigo. The amount of time needed to devote to this kind of endeavour is daunting indeed, and perfectly understandable, especially now that you have more responsibilities. As Grant said, you will be missed.
ReplyDeleteYou'll see I've also added two new blogs - Pat B's 96 48 35 From The Centre blog and Gauche Manitoba. Be sure to read 'em.
ReplyDeleteI guess the spin cycle came to an end.
ReplyDeleteYou advertised endless. I want my money back.
